Our Hiking Code

Tags:

Regardless of the type of hike, or its location in the world, there are some key rules every hiker should follow. For your own protection, and that of the environment:

ALWAYS

  1. Plan the walk or hike according to your abilities.
  2. Respect the weather and heed local forecasts.
  3. Take water.
  4. Carry extra clothing and food.
  5. Take a topographical map and compass (and know how to use them) on longer or mountain walks.
  6. Protect wildlife, plants and trees.
  7. Take your litter home.
  8. Guard against all risk of fire.

If possible, ask at a visitor center or local information office about current trail conditions before setting out.

Any outdoor recreation can be potentially hazardous, and hiking is no exception. All participants must assume responsibility for their own actions and safety, exercise sound judgement, and be prepared for and seek advice on weather and trail conditions. Although the authors and publisher of HikingTrailer.com (“the site”) try to make the site as accurate as possible, they disclaim any liability for accident, loss, injury, inconvenience or other damage that may be sustained by anyone using the information contained on the site.
